The Nugedola Wallauwa (now Viceroy House) was built between 1938 and 1942 by the returning British High Commissioner of Ceylon and his wife, Hilda Obeysekera. In 2008, previous owners worked exceptionally hard to restore the property to its former glory. Perched atop the hill, Viceroy House is a secluded escape with uninterrupted views of the lush jungle landscape, rolling hills, and the ocean in the distance. 

The estate is comprised of a spacious main house and a series of buildings providing private accommodations and leisure facilities. 

The Wallauwa
Built originally as a private home, the house boasts two sitting rooms, a large study, two large banquet-style dining tables, and a cobbled sun terrace.

The Pool
60 feet of clear water overlooking the protected jungle to the south of Viceroy House. Lined with shady private cabanas and bordered with a poolside bar dining space.

The Lookout 
Hidden away, the gorgeous Lookout shala overlooks the plantations and for miles beyond. There is a 400 square foot pavilion ideal for yoga, meditation and other group activities. Underneath the lookout, there are two quietly secluded treatment rooms. 

For those flying in or out, Viceroy House is ideally located within an hour’s drive from the International Airport at Katunayake - a little north of Colombo.
